What Causes Hearing Loss?

A variety of factors can contribute to hearing loss, some of which are more prevalent than others. When it comes to prevention and precaution, knowledge of these causes can go a long way. Here are some of the triggers that can cause damage or rupture.

Eardrum Rupture

This complication can be caused by:

  • Loud noises
  • Pressure changes
  • Poking from a foreign object

Ear Infection or Abnormalities

This inner- or outer-ear complication can be caused by:

  • Infections
  • Bone growths
  • Tumors left untreated

Earwax Buildup

This complication can be cause temporary hearing loss due to blockage of the ear canal by earwax that stops sound waves from passing through. Wax removal is the quick-fix solution to remedying this complication.

Inner Ear Damage

This complication can be caused by unusually loud noises, that spur long-term damage. High-pitched tones may be tough to decipher, and background noise can muffle your ability to hear in group scenarios.

Other Causes

Additional causes of hearing loss can include fluid in the middle ear, allergies and malformation of the outer ear, canal or inner ear
